It's a couple of weeks until we start the 1st sketchbook class on Thursday mornings. We will be running this class also as part of the next Thursday afternoon Carry On Drawing in March.
These classes are designed to develop your own drawing and painting practice at home and in class. This is ideal if you want to paint and draw at home but are not sure where to start, keeping everything in a sketchbook and receiving guidance and feedback in class will help. As well as working in your sketchbook at home we will also be painting and drawing in class on the designated dates in your new sketchbook.
Where to start? Before you come to class:
The theme is 'blue' sketchbook - To get us started this is the first theme. There is an earlier blog post I wrote about the first sketchbook class see here do check out this post where it gives more detail about what this could involve
Gather your resources at home! We are making a sketchbook! This can consist of single pages, existing paintings you would like to include or even a new sketchbook you have bought, even a diary you dont mind painting on.
Bring along blue paintings, blue colours, blue tissue, blue prints from the gelli plates if you did that, blue pencils, art materials to paint, stick and draw with, blue ribbon or something to bind pages together (you get the idea) hole punch and we will get together to create your own blue sketchbook.
The outside of your book can be added later or on the first session.
Get inspired! Go onto YouTube and type in create a sketchbook, or just 'sketchbook' to help you get ideas of what a sketchbook could be like. Watch videos on sketchbooks you like the look of, make notes, think about how you could adopt ideas from this. You will discover hopefully that there are many types of sketchbooks and over time we will be focusing in these sessions, on different sketchbooks e.g. memories sketchbook, exhibitions sketchbook, sketchbook for grandchildren, a day in my life sketchbook, it could even be based on recipes, music and so on.
Preparing ahead will ensure that you have thought about your own project a bit, it doesnt have to be finished idea but having materials to work with in class is very important.
What to expect in class
We will discuss the different options of creating the first sketchbook, you will be encouraged to experiment with the colour blue
We will team up in small groups and develop our ideas first and then make a few notes, just so we can keep to the plan. This doesnt mean that the plan cant be undone, its a starting point!
We will start creating pages of blue, influenced by your ideas from above, a bit of briain storming and then assembling the sketchbook
If you have any questions about it, get in touch by email info@skyblueartclasses.co.uk
